Interesting: China Mourning Over Steve Jobs’ Resignation as CEO of Apple

I’ve been out of the country the last week or so, and am a little behind on news.

However, was checking in on CNN yesterday, and they have some interesting reports from China about the resignation of Steve Jobs as the CEO of Apple.

It seems Jobs is a cult figure in China and it’s a location where Apple products sell like hot cakes (even more than elsewhere) – and it’s a place where young entrepreneurs revere Jobs for his vision — and they way he dresses. Young businessmen who wear jeans and black turtlenecks are said to have “Jobs Style.”

Apple has many suppliers in China, as such as Foxconn, Dimplo, Dynapac, Wintek and TPK. Those companies’ stocks dropped on the news that Jobs was retiring. There is a great concern about the future of those suppliers.

Sesame Street’s Claim: Bert and Ernie are Not Gay

The biggest debate at the bar last night: Are Bert and Ernie gay?

I’ll back up: Over the past month there have been online petitions asking for Sesame Street muppets Bert and Ernie to come out as a gay couple and get married.

The media picked up the story, and finally Sesame Workshop finally had to issue an official statement about the issue. Bert and Ernie are not gay. They are just good friends.

Here is the statement:

“Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.”

Bert and Ernie are about getting along with people who aren’t like you. They’re not about anything else, such as sexuality. Get your mind out of your pants, people.

Dirty Dream Alert: Henry Cavill as Superman

Girls, your panties are about to get a bit of a jolt…

Warner Bros. has released the first photograph of Henry Cavill as Superman. He certainly looks the part as he appears to be removing a large, heavy steel door.

God, I want him to use some of that steel on me…

Anyway…

Cavill talked to Total Film about his diet and workout to get buff for the Superman role. Cavill says, “I’m on 5,000 calories a day…You’ve got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs…you’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going. I’m training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman.”

The reboot is being directed by Zack Snyder. Amy Adams plays Lois Lane. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner play Martha and Jonathan Kent. The film will not be released until June 14, 2013.

LOVE IT: Fabio Challenges Isaiah Mustafa to a Duel on the Internets

Fabio, the new Old Spice Guy, has challenged Isaiah Mustafa, the old Old Spice Guy, to a duel.

Isaiah has accepted the challenge!

The battle will commence tomorrow on the Internets at noon EST. Isaiah says, “Yes, Fabio I accept your challenge, Mano a Mano in El Bano.”

This Just In: Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer Won’t Return for Season 4 of Glee

Oh wow, some of you may want to sit down for this one…

The Hollywood Reporter reports that this upcoming season of Glee will be the very last for series regulars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer.

The three stars’ characters will all graduate from McKinley High School in season three.

Ryan Murphy told THR, “You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”

Season 3 of Glee will premiere on September 20, 2011.

 

I concur – do we remember how ridiculous it was when the 90210 gang stayed in high school too long? Or Saved by the Bell? Or Buffy? But still..to the rest of you…I’m sorry for your loss!

Spotify is Coming to the U.S.!

This has me pretty excited: Spotify, an online music service I’ve had my eye (and ear) on for a while, has confirmed it is coming to the U.S.

A message posted on spotify.com says the service will offer millions of tracks ready to play instantly, for free.

The site is asking people to enter their email addresses in exchange for an invite. ZDNet reports that the site is expected to launch with an invite-only model.

There have been rumors that Spotify will power a new music service from Facebook, but the latest information is that Spotify will not have an exclusive deal with Facebook.

This Just In: James Spader Joins Cast of The Office!

Tell your friends, neighbors, and ambiguous relationship partners: James Spader guest starred on an episode of The Office in May. Now, and now is joining The Office as a regular cast member! Spader will replace the CEO, previously played by Kathy Bates.

Show executive producer Paul Lieberstein said in a statement that Spader’s character is an “uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior.”

Beyonce’s 4 Album Arrives June 28, Target Will Carry Exclusive Deluxe Edition

Beyonce’s new album, 4, will arrive in stores on June 28th. Beyonce calls 4 her her “musical gumbo.” The album was inspired by a variety of music generes. Beyonce says, “My fans will be so excited about my new album because I put my heart and soul into creating something that’s personal and honest.”

Target partnered with Beyonce for the exclusive deluxe edition of 4. The deluxe edition of “4” is available for pre-order at target.com/beyonce.

The Target deluxe album includes three additional new songs from Beyonce as well as three remixes and bonus video footage. The new tracks exclusive to Target are: “Lay Up Under Me, Schoolin’ Life” and “Dance For You.”

OMG: June 25 is Global Smurfs Day

June 25, 2011 has been declared Global Smurfs Day!!!

The day celebrates the birthday of Peyo, the creator of the Smurfs. Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation will also use the day to build anticipation for The Smurfs movie, which arrives in theaters in the U.S. on July 29.

The movie studios will encourage people to dress in Smurf costumes and try and establish a Guinness World Records title for Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour period in Multiple Venues. To achieve recognition from Guinness World Records the global events must collectively add up to more than 2,510 people in Smurf costumes. You can find out more at globalsmurfsday.com.
