Giveaway: A Gadget You Never Knew You Needed

As a bit of a catch-up, for those who do not follow on Twitter (WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???) – New York City (and much of the East Coast) is currently enveloped in the sixth biggest blizzard in recorded history.

Apparently, a year that involved a tornado and an ice storm, as well as the hottest summer — we had 3 days over 100 degrees in August alone — also involves some bad-ass snow. As in THUNDER SNOW…something that until last night, I didn’t even know existed.

In fact, for those of you who are sitting in sunny LA right now scoffing at my drama…let me share a video taken a few hours ago, from the very block I am sequestered on.It’s really bad. As in really really bad — and we are hearing stories everywhere about cars stuck and abandoned, people left all night on subways, and everyone stranded just about everywhere.

Myself, I’m simply stranded at home. My subway is not running, I can’t get into the city, I can’t get anywhere else, and I’m subsisting on wine and caffeine. (My favorite two foods, anyway.)

Of course, throughout the day I’ve been occupying myself on Twitter — where I always am, anyway — and I decided to make today easier for all of us by doing Twitter giveaways. Free stuff always helps to pass the time!!!!
One of the coolest things that came my way was Car MD — it’s sort of a doctor for your car, in the sense of when that pesky little “check car engine” light comes on, you can pull out the car gadget and it will read the trouble codes. Then it will take you to a website that lets him know exactly what’s going on with the car. It feels pretty timely. You know, with cars everywhere in peril, and stuff.

It also resonated with me because today I was working on a Going Green Guide for SheKnows (that should go live in the coming weeks), and it fit for that as well –cause, well, a well-maintained car is a greener car. Car MD’s Vehicle Health System helps drivers monitor their car for hidden problems, catch emissions-related issues, diagnose check engine light warnings and more. And so I am giving one of these away on Twitter right now…as in the giveaway will begin as soon as I hit publish on this post. To enter? Tweet me with your scariest snowy day car emergency ever – and how a “car doctor” could have gone a long way!
